Who do you interact with in online spaces?

What are your current networks?

How do you find and join different networks?

What do different networks afford you?

This week the focus is networks. It is a continuation from last week’s topic/conversation in that who you interact with and how you interact inform your digital identity. What about audiences? As you either continue to post to the DigPINS website and/or your own, we as a group are the main audience (I think), but who are the other audiences you see? When you write in an open platform, do you expect to get a response? How are those responses different when they are on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Medium, or your blog? Do you interact with people you do not know? How does that change the interaction? What is the difference between jumping into a conversation and responding to someone who has jumped into your conversation? I know you have probably thought through some of these questions, but I hope our conversation together gives us a chance to spend time and intentionality reflecting on some of the why and how we do things as a way to start talking about the how and the why of working with students in online spaces. I’m mostly thinking about more seemingly flat or open spaces like Twitter, where influence and signaling matter, but also where you do have more opportunity to expand your networks with people you have not met directly or in person.
